ABOUT AFRICAWAD

AFRICAWAD RECYCLING C.I.C is social enterprise. The organisation was founded by a group of British African women to tackle issues in the labour market faced by migrants who find it difficult to get jobs in Britain without good communication skills. By providing an opportunity to be active in their community and use the culturally unique and complementary skills and knowledge of processes for recycling, Africawad Recycling has created a unique work and learning environment for African women who have the right to work in the UK but are struggling to find a job due to language and/or social barriers. Through a recycling ‘cash for clothes’ business which services both the UK and overseas markets, individuals are up-skilled, helped to gain confidence and a sense of self worth and assisted to be employee ready. This has contributed to improved quality of family life both in the UK and abroad whilst improving productivity and company expansion opportunities. Our organisation has also contributed to the prevention of tons of clothing going to the landfill every year, this helps the global issues surrounding the environment. Finally the company is promoting education of young girls, help reduce immigration from Africa to Europe and save lives.
